This evening, at approximately 11:32 pm, a call came into the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center, where a reporting party stated there had been a disturbance at a residence in the 6500 block of Tranters Creek Way in the Security-Widefield area of unincorporated El Paso County.
The reporting party, a neighbor, had received information there had been a disturbance at the residence and believed there was a firearm involved.
Patrol deputies arrived on the scene and discovered a firearm in the driveway of the residence. Deputies contacted an adult male and an adult female at the residence and began an investigation into the incident.
When deputies attempted to detain the male party, he became physically aggressive towards deputies and obtained control of a deputy’s taser.
The suspect deployed the taser, and a fight ensued.
At least two deputies fired at least one round each. Subsequently, the suspect was hit.
Deputies began rendering medical care to the suspect until medical personnel from Security Fire arrived and resumed care.
A few minutes later, the suspect was pronounced deceased by medical personnel on the scene.
During the incident, two deputies were injured and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
No other community members were injured in this incident. The deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with EPSO policy.
Following Colorado state law, the Colorado Springs Police Department is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting. This is an ongoing investigation, and information regarding the incident will be released as it becomes available.
