El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team Conducts High-Risk Extraction and Extradition Transport

Last week, members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) traveled to the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a high-risk cell extraction and extradition transport of 39-year-old Cameron B. White. White was wanted on a felony warrant in El Paso County and had previously been uncooperative with law enforcement during an earlier transport attempt.

White had been arrested by the Cortez Police Department and booked into the Montezuma County Jail on October 1, 2025, for unrelated charges.

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, safely extracted White from his cell without incident. Following the extraction, El Paso County deputies immediately transported him to the El Paso County Jail.

Cameron B. White faces multiple felony charges in El Paso County, including Second-Degree Assault, Crimes Against an At-Risk Person, and First-Degree Criminal Trespass.

Sheriff Joseph Roybal commended all involved, stating:

“I want to thank Sheriff Nowlin and his team for their assistance, as well as our Special Response Team members for their collaborative work in ensuring justice for victims across Colorado. Extraditions are an important process in holding criminals accountable for their actions and restoring justice for victims. Our SRT members once again demonstrated professionalism and expertise in handling what could have been a dangerous situation with precision and care.”

About the Special Response Team

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) was formed after a 1990 jail riot that injured three deputies and exposed the need for specialized emergency response capabilities. Since then, SRT has evolved into a highly trained unit responsible for managing forced cell extractions, riot control, mental health pickups, high-risk transports, extraditions, and other critical operations that ensure the safety of both staff and incarcerated individuals.
