El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Announces Reopening of Expanded Regional Communications Center

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office proudly announces the grand reopening of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center, marking a significant milestone in regional public safety communications. The expanded and remodeled facility now positions El Paso County to meet the growing demand for emergency services and strengthen support to partner agencies across the region.

Originally constructed in 2012, the Communications Center has been the vital hub connecting residents to emergency services across unincorporated El Paso County, the United States Air Force Academy, Pikes Peak State College, and the municipalities of Manitou Springs, Fountain, Calhan, Palmer Lake, Green Mountain Falls, Ramah, and Monument. The center provides dispatch services for eight law enforcement agencies, twenty fire departments, and an expanding number of specialized response teams—serving as the operational backbone for nearly every emergency service provider in the county, apart from Colorado Springs Fire and Police.

Rapid population growth and the 2016 consolidation with Fountain Communications created a critical need for expanded capacity. In February 2023, Sheriff Joseph Roybal authorized a feasibility review, leading to a formal partnership on the project between the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority. The joint project—funded through nearly $2.25 million in total combined contributions- was one of the most technically complex public safety infrastructure efforts in recent county history.

During construction, dispatch operations were temporarily relocated to the El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority’s Communications Center, allowing essential services to continue without interruption. By early 2025, construction crews, technology teams, and public safety specialists worked together to complete the modernized facility.

The expanded Communications Center now includes 20 state-of-the-art dispatch consoles, nearly doubling its previous capacity. It features a dedicated Wellness Room designed to support the mental health and well-being of emergency communications professionals. With 22 active radio consoles between the operational and training centers, the facility now holds the highest number of radio consoles of any public safety dispatch center in the state of Colorado.
