Suspect Arrested in Multi-State Government Impersonation Scam

On September 29, 2025, a victim contacted the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to report she had fallen prey to a government impersonation scam, resulting in a financial loss exceeding $200,000. The victim provided El Paso County Sheriff’s Office detectives with detailed information regarding the individual who collected cash from her at her residence in El Paso County on September 11, 2025.

Through an in-depth investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 27-year-old Harish Vadla, who has been linked to several similar scams targeting elderly victims across the United States. Working in collaboration with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, detectives located and arrested Vadla. A small portion of the stolen funds was recovered during his arrest.

Vadla, a foreign national from India residing in the United States on a visa, is currently in custody awaiting extradition to Colorado. He faces multiple felony charges, including At-Risk robbery, Money laundering, and Conspiracy to commit theft.

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal stated, “Criminals who exploit the trust of others, especially our elderly community, will find no refuge from justice. I commend our investigators and our partners in Florida for their swift and coordinated response. Together, we will continue pursuing those who prey upon our citizens.”

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives believe additional victims may exist. The victim will receive a phone call from an individual claiming to work for a federal agency, who will inform them (the victim) they are being criminally investigated. Then, the scammer will gain access to the victim’s computer via an email or website link. Through this process, they access the victim’s bank account or demand gold or cash payment, and the victim is told a government agent will come to their home or meet them to pick up the currency or funds. Residents who believe they were targeted or victimized by similar scams are urged to contact the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (719) 520-7777.
