Death of an Individual in Custody Following Hospitalization

On Friday, March 6, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM, a 35-year-old female in custody was being treated by medical personnel at the El Paso County Jail. Medical staff determined she required additional care and arranged for her transfer to a local hospital.

At approximately 1:15 PM, paramedics from AMR arrived and transported the female to a local hospital. Security was provided and maintained by a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. After arrival, the individual was admitted to the hospital.

Despite advanced medical care and efforts at the hospital, the individual’s condition worsened, and she passed away at approximately 11:34 PM.

Currently, the cause of the individual’s death remains unknown.

Our Office extends condolences to the individual’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Sheriff Roybal has ordered an in-depth investigation into the incident. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division will conduct the investigation in accordance with the same standards we provide for all citizens in El Paso County.

Additionally, Sheriff Roybal has requested an autopsy from the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

Formal identification of the deceased individual, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be determined by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
