The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) is recruiting community-minded volunteers for its third Sheriff’s Posse Academy, scheduled for Spring 2027. The program provides residents with specialized training to support deputies and assist with public safety operations in non-sworn volunteer roles throughout El Paso County.
Sheriff’s Posse members help expand the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to serve the community, support law enforcement operations, and strengthen partnerships between residents and public safety professionals.
Through the academy, volunteers receive training to assist in a variety of assignments, including:
- Traffic and accident control
- Crime scene security
- Crowd and parking management at major events
- Directed patrol and crime prevention activities
- Animal complaints and property reports
- Motorist assists
El Paso County Sheriff’s Office - Radio and verbal communications
- Community engagement and outreach
- Support at the El Paso County Jail, Mounted Unit, Regional Communications Center, Courthouse, and other Sheriff’s Office facilities

“The Sheriff’s Posse is an outstanding example of how community members can play an active role in public safety,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “These volunteers extend our reach, support our deputies, and help us deliver quality service to a growing county. If you’re looking for a way to give back, strengthen your community, and make a real difference, I encourage you to consider becoming a member of the Sheriff’s Posse.”
