Child Revived After Overdose Incident; Mother Booked into El Paso County Jail

On March 24, 2026, at approximately 10:16 AM, a call was received by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center reporting an unresponsive four-year-old child. Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies and medical personnel from Tri-lakes Monument Fire Protection District responded to a residence in the 15400 block of Jessie Drive in the Gleneagle area of unincorporated El Paso County.

Upon arrival, the child’s mother, Meghan Anderson, advised first responders to administer Narcan to the child, who was unresponsive and not breathing. Multiple doses of Narcan were administered, after which the child resumed breathing.

Medical personnel stabilized the child on scene before transporting them to a local hospital for further care.

Following the child’s transport, Anderson became uncooperative with deputies. The residence was secured, and detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division responded to the scene. A search warrant was obtained and executed, resulting in the discovery of drugs and multiple items of drug-related paraphernalia inside the residence.

Following further investigation, based on evidence collected Meghan Anderson was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:

  • Child Abuse
  • Second Degree Assault
  • Child Abuse (Attempted)
  • Reckless Endangerment

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal stated, “I commend my deputies and our partner first responders for their swift, decisive actions in this case. Their efforts ensured this child received immediate, life-saving care and that those responsible are being held accountable. Protecting the most vulnerable members of our community—especially our children—remains one of our highest priorities, and we will continue to pursue justice in cases such as this without hesitation.’”

Due to the severity of the circumstances, an elevated bond of $100,000 was approved.

The Department of Human Services responded to the hospital and has assumed custody of the child.
