El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Welcomes Regional Academy Recruit Class 25-2 Into the Law Enforcement Profession

Today, El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal administered the Oath of Office to 37 POST-certified deputies during the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy Class 25-2 Graduation Ceremony.

The ceremony, held at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, also included the formal swearing-in of two new County Security personnel—professionals entrusted with protecting community members who visit county facilities.

Our County Security Officers carry a significant responsibility within our mission of public safety,” stated El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “They serve as the first line of protection for everyone who enters our county facilities—families visiting the Courthouse, neighbors seeking services at the Citizens Service Center, and families enjoying our parks and outdoor spaces. Their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to service help ensure these spaces remain safe, accessible, and welcoming for everyone. I am proud to welcome them to our Office and grateful for their dedication to the citizens of El Paso County.”

Of the 37 graduating POST-certified Colorado Peace Officers:
• 30 will continue their service with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office
• 4 will serve with the Teller County Sheriff’s Office
• 1 will serve with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office
• 1 will serve with the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office
• 1 will serve with the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office

Recruit Class 25-2 began training on June 16, 2025. Twenty-three weeks later, these graduates stood ready to take the Oath of Office and serve as Colorado Peace Officers. This is the eighth class to graduate under the updated POST certification program since Sheriff Roybal took office in January 2023.

“I am incredibly proud to welcome these 37 dedicated men and women into the law enforcement community,” said Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Their discipline, commitment, and passion for service were evident throughout the 23-week academy. I appreciate the trust Sheriffs Mikesell, Speckman, Sanchez, and Navarette have placed in our training program—each of their recruits is prepared to serve with honor and excellence.”

Today, each of you accepted the weight of the badge. It is more than a symbol—it is a promise. A promise to defend the constitutional rights of every person you encounter, to stand firm in moments of uncertainty, and to respond with calm, courage, and compassion when others need help. You now carry a responsibility that extends far beyond a uniform. You carry the expectations of a community and the legacy of every peace officer who has come before you.”

The next POST-certified class from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy is scheduled to graduate in Spring 2026 and will include recruits from agencies across Colorado.
