First Responder Drone Assistance Leads to an Arrest

On June 26, 2026, at approximately 8:00 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received information about a disturbance occurring in the 600 block of Catalina Drive in the Stratmoor Hills area of unincorporated El Paso County.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Based Operations Center (IBOC) deployed a drone as a first responder to search the area prior to Patrol deputies’ arrival.

The drone operator observed multiple people leaving the residence before deputies arrived, some of which hid in the backyard.

Patrol deputies arrived on scene and safely contacted multiple people to include 44-year-old Stephanie Sue Adams who had two active warrants.  She was detained without incident.

Adams was in custody at the El Paso County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

She was released on two personal recognizance bonds, which are set according to conditions determined by the state of Colorado.

“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Based Operations Center demonstrates how technology can enhance public safety and support our deputies in the field,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Using drone as a first responder technology allows us to quickly assess situations, improve situational awareness, and identify safety concerns before deputies arrive on scene.

“During this incident, the IBOC drone provided critical real-time information which assisted responding deputies and ultimately led to the safe detention of a wanted individual without incident. This technology is helping us work more efficiently, improve deputy and community safety, and get wanted criminals off the streets while continuing to serve our citizens with professionalism and accountability.”
