Sheriff Roybal Appoints Deputy Fire Warden for El Paso County

Sheriff Joseph Roybal has announced the appointment of Emergency Response Manager Elizabeth “Lizz” Floro as Deputy Fire Warden for El Paso County. Floro was sworn into this critical role on January 13, 2025, marking a significant step forward in the county’s wildfire management and emergency preparedness efforts.

Emergency Response Manager Floro was welcomed to the office in December 2024 to oversee the development and implementation of policies, training programs, and public education initiatives related to wildland fire management and suppression. She will also lead the El Paso County Wildland Fire Management team, which is responsible for protecting more than 2,100 square miles of unincorporated land across the county.

Floro will lead a dedicated team of career professionals and volunteers who work alongside county fire departments and regional agencies. Since its establishment in 1994, the El Paso County Wildland Fire Management team has played an instrumental role in responding to hundreds of wildfires, from small lightning strikes to large, complex incidents. The team’s efforts include providing engine and hand crews for fire suppression, conducting prescribed burns, and offering urban interface protection.

As Deputy Fire Warden, Floro is responsible for ensuring coordination with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies. She will also evaluate and improve the county’s emergency response plans to ensure El Paso County remains prepared to handle any emergency situation which may arise.

“The Deputy Fire Warden position is critical to fire response preparedness, and it carries a tremendous responsibility to our community. Lizz will play a key role in making sure we are actively working to reduce the risk of wildfires, and when fires do occur we’ll be fully prepared to respond.” – Sheriff Joseph Roybal
