Sheriff’s Office Investigates Officer Involved Shooting on North Nevada Avenue

On Monday, March 31, 2025, at approximately 2:21 pm, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding an adult male breaking into vehicles and threatening a community member with a firearm in a parking lot near 21 North Nevada Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado.

CSPD Patrol Officers from the Gold Hill Division responded to the scene and located the suspect inside a vehicle. Officers attempted to contact the suspect and take him into custody. However, the suspect was non-compliant.

Suddenly, the suspect exited the vehicle with the firearm, at which time one CSPD Officer fired at least one round, striking the suspect.

CSPD Officers rendered emergency aid until medical personnel arrived on scene and declared the suspect deceased.

No other members of the community or law enforcement were injured during this incident.

Investigators recovered a firearm on the scene.

The CSPD officer involved in this incident has been placed on administrative leave per CSPD’s policy.

In accordance with Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting.

This is an ongoing investigation, and information regarding the incident will be released from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Office as appropriate.
