Suspect Arrested in Cheyenne Mountain Estates Arson Investigation

On August 26, 2026, at approximately 4:22 AM, a call was received by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center reporting a vehicle “on fire” in front of a residence in the 8100 block of Piute Road in the Cheyenne Mountain Estates area of unincorporated El Paso County.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies and members of the Southwest Highway 115 Fire Protection District responded to the scene and secured the area.

Deputies contacted two adult victims, both of whom had vehicles on the property which had sustained damage. The victims told deputies they had received threats earlier in the evening from an individual known to them, identified as 32-year-old Alex Luevano.

Neighbors provided deputies with security camera footage, which positively identified Luevano as the suspect.

Deputies attempted to locate and contact Luevano but were unsuccessful.

Deputies subsequently obtained an arrest warrant and referred the case to the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Impact Team (FIT).

On September 3, 2026, FIT deputies located Luevano at a residence in the 1000 block of Rice Drive in the Stratton Meadows area of Colorado Springs. Luevano fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal stated,This is the work our community expects from us—apprehending criminals and holding them accountable. The Fugitive Impact Team is critical to removing dangerous, wanted criminals from our neighborhoods. These deputies do not stop when a suspect cannot be located. They pursue every lead, track down wanted offenders, and make sure they answer for their actions. I am proud of the work of my deputies and their commitment to keeping the citizens of the Pikes Peak region safe.”

Alex Luevano was transported to the El Paso County Jail and booked on the following charges:

-Criminal Mischief
-First-Degree Criminal Trespass
-Harassment
-Second-Degree Arson
-Second-Degree Criminal Tampering

He was released on a personal recognizance (PR) bond by the court, following his advisement hearing.
