Suspect Arrested in Connection with Shooting on South Highway 85/87

On July 24, 2025, at 11:18 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received a call for service regarding a disturbance and shots fired near 4140 S. Highway 85/87, in unincorporated El Paso County.

Patrol deputies responded to the location, where they discovered multiple shell casings and observed damage to the gas station.

An investigation was initiated and a victim was located at a nearby business. Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured during the incident.

Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, along with possible locations he may have fled to, but they were unable to confirm the suspect’s name.

Deputies, along with the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Tactical Enforcement Unit and the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Team, conducted an extensive search for the suspect but did not locate him.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office detectives assumed the investigation and worked diligently to identify the suspect.

On July 25, 2025, detectives identified and arrested 23-year-old Miguel Mayo, charging him with menacing and reckless endangerment.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail and has subsequently been released after posting a $2,000 bond.
