EPSO Wildland Fire Crew and Cascade Fire Department Come Together for Ute Pass Chipper Event to Reduce Wildfire Risk

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Wildland Fire Crew, in partnership with the Cascade Volunteer Fire Department, hosted a Chipper Event for the Ute Pass community from April 21–27. Community partners, The North Pole- Santa’s Workshop and Earthwise generously supported the effort by donating space and storage for mulch collection.

This event gave residents a free and convenient way to dispose of tree branches, pine needles, and leaves, transforming natural debris into mulch. These collaborative mitigation efforts play a critical role in reducing wildfire risk and enhancing community safety.

“I want to personally thank our community partners and residents who donated their time and resources to make this project a success,” said Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “A special thank you goes to our Wildland Firefighters and our partners at the Cascade Fire Department for their hard work and dedication. Fire mitigation is a critical part of protecting lives and property, and I’m proud the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continues to lead and support efforts to keep our communities safe.”
