Burglary Suspect Apprehended After Homeowner Holds Him at Gunpoint

On May 21, 2025, at approximately 1:20 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call from a residence in the 2700 block of Pony Club Lane, located in the Cimarron Hills neighborhood of unincorporated El Paso County. The caller reported hearing someone in their garage. While on the line with dispatch, the call taker could hear the homeowner shouting at someone inside the residence.

Deputies arrived and found the homeowner holding the suspect at gunpoint outside the home. As deputies approached, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Brody Burnett, fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, deputies apprehended Burnett.

According to the homeowner, his security alarm was triggered when Burnett entered the garage. The homeowner located Burnett inside and detained him at gunpoint until deputies arrived.

Burnett was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:
• Second Degree Burglary
• Possession of Burglary Tools
• Attempted Criminal Trespass – Auto
• Criminal Possession of a Financial Transaction Device
• Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance -Fentanyl
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Burnett also had active warrants for failure to appear on both a felony and a misdemeanor case. He is being held on a $10,000 bond for the new charges and without bond for the outstanding warrants.
