Stolen Vehicle Recovered, Parolee Arrested at Econolodge Hotel

On September 29, 2025, at approximately 10:29 PM, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies were conducting a routine patrol near the Econolodge Hotel in the 6700 block of Space Village Avenue in unincorporated El Paso County.

Intelligence-driven policing efforts continue to identify this area as a high-intensity patrol location due to frequent criminal activity, including motor vehicle thefts, weapons offenses, and narcotics-related crimes.

During the patrol, deputies observed a vehicle matching the description of a stolen truck reported to local law enforcement. A male in a black shirt was seen near the vehicle, identified as a 1992 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

As additional deputies arrived, the male entered the truck and attempted to leave the area. To prevent escape, deputies positioned a marked patrol car in front of the vehicle and activated emergency lights. Deputies then observed the driver, an adult female passenger, and two young children inside.

The driver attempted to move forward, prompting deputies to conduct a Tactical Intervention Method (TIM) maneuver to block the vehicle. He then reversed into a second marked patrol unit, which brought the truck to a complete stop.

The driver was identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Madrid, who was on parole for robbery and motor vehicle theft. He was taken into custody without incident.

A search of the truck revealed methamphetamine, heroin, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia.

Jonathan Madrid was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:

  • Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Attempted Vehicular Eluding
  • Child Abuse

Sheriff Joseph Roybal stated, “Our deputies acted decisively in a high-risk situation, ensuring the safe recovery of a stolen vehicle while removing a repeat offender from our community. Their swift actions not only protected the public but also safeguarded two children from further exposure to dangerous criminal behavior.”
