Suspect Arrested in Security/Widefield After Threatening Community Members with Swords

On May 18, 2025, at approximately 10:52 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received a call regarding an adult male walking through a neighborhood in the Security/Widefield area, carrying two large swords and threatening residents.

The individual was identified as 32-year-old Daniel Adolpho-Rivera.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the area, and Adolpho-Rivera was located walking northeast on Larch Drive.

Upon attempting to make contact, Adolpho-Rivera fled on foot and entered the backyard of a home.  Deputies established containment around the residence. Adolpho-Rivera was quickly located hiding under several large plywood boards.

Despite repeated verbal commands, Adolpho-Rivera did not initially comply. Deputies continued to communicate, built a rapport, and convinced Adolpho-Rivera to surrender. He was taken into custody without further incident.

A canvas of the area was done, and deputies recovered the swords.

Adolpho-Rivera sustained minor injuries while fleeing and was medically cleared on the scene.

During the investigation, two victims were identified. The victims had been working in their yard when Adolpho-Rivera approached them, swinging the swords and making verbal threats.

“I am grateful for my deputy’s quick response and skills to negotiate a peaceful surrender from this suspect,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Because of their training and dedication to our mission, everyone safely walked away from a dangerous situation.”

Daniel Adolpho-Rivera was subsequently transported and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges: Felony Menacing (2 counts) and Criminal Trespass (1 count).  He is currently being held on a $2,000 bond.
