Armed Suspect Arrested Following Menacing Incident in Eastern El Paso County

On October 24, 2025, at approximately 3:51 PM, a call came into the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center reporting an armed robbery in progress. The reporting party stated an adult male known to the caller pointed a firearm, ordered them out of a vehicle, and demanded their keys. The suspect remained on the property and continued to threaten the victim, saying he would “shoot” them if they tried to leave.

Patrol deputies were dispatched to the 22000 block of Jones Road in unincorporated El Paso County.

Upon arrival, deputies established a perimeter and utilized drone technology to locate the suspect safely. The suspect, 56-year-old James Hughes, was observed outside the residence and was detained without incident.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division obtained and executed a search warrant for the property, locating key evidence supporting probable cause for Hughes’s arrest.

James Hughes was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail for the following charges:

• Menacing
• Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender
• Harassment
• Reckless Endangerment

Hughes was released on October 26, 2025, on a $2,000.00 bond.

“The quick, coordinated response by our deputies and detectives ensured this volatile situation was resolved safely for everyone involved,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Their professionalism and use of technology reflect our continued focus on protecting the public while minimizing risk to both citizens and deputies.”
