Update: Deputies Identified in Officer Involved Shooting on Tranters Creek Way

On July 18, 2025, at approximately 11:32 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a disturbance at a residence in the 6500 block of Tranters Creek Way, located in unincorporated El Paso County.

Deputies responded to the scene and contacted two adult individuals.

During the contact, a lethal force encounter occurred involving one of the individuals.

Deputies immediately rendered medical aid until medical personnel arrived.

Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

In accordance with Sheriff’s Office Policies, the involved deputies were placed on administrative leave.

The deputies are identified as:

  • Deputy Brenden Koehlinger, employed with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office since 2018
  • Deputy Juanito Cuellar, employed with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office since 2017

Per Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, the Colorado Springs Police Department is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting. All information regarding the deadly force investigation will come from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
