El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Vocational Program Prepares Incarcerated Individuals for Life Beyond Custody

In alignment with our mission to ensure individuals leave custody better prepared for life and reduce revictimization in our community, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is proud to highlight the success and ongoing development of its Vocational Program, launched in October 2024.

The Vocational Program is designed to equip incarcerated individuals with practical, workforce-ready skills to support a successful reintegration into the community upon release. By offering a structured and supportive path to employment, the initiative aims to reduce recidivism and foster positive, long-term outcomes for participants.

Currently, the program offers industry-recognized certifications, including Flagger and Forklift Operation. These credentials open doors to in-demand employment opportunities and are recognized by employers across various industries. As the program grows, additional certifications will be added to meet the evolving needs of the workforce and the interests of participants.

Beyond technical training, the program emphasizes essential job readiness skills, including resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace communication. This holistic approach is designed to enhance each participant’s confidence, professionalism, and overall employability.

“The goal is not just to train, but to increase opportunity, prevent recidivism, and improve the quality of life for participants,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “We want every individual who participates in this program to return to our community with a renewed sense of purpose and the tools they need to succeed.”

The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to innovative rehabilitation strategies which support public safety and empower individuals to lead productive lives after incarceration.
